Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon. Godfrey Gaiya has described the Super Eagles’ victory against the Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia on Sunday in Addis Ababa as a sweet one, but cautioned the team and their technical crew not to lose focus in preparing hard for the second leg coming up in Calabar November 16.
He urged the team to do more work to be able to consolidate on the victory secured in Addis Ababa rather than over celebrate first-leg victory.
According to Gaiya, the Ethiopians showed a lot of skill and courage on the ball but were unlucky against a Nigerian side that paraded one of the best teams on the continent.
“The team should train harder now and make sure it is not over confident or complacency. It is not over until it is over and a match is not over till the Calabar episode, so, let us not go home elebrating and forget the return leg. We must go to Calabar and make sure that we deliver again.
It is not yet over for them (Ethiopians), so the Eagles should not rejoice much but prepare hard for the second leg in Calabar.
“It is a sweet victory for Nigeria and we have also taken some lessons from the game which we will use to finish the job in Calabar,’’ Gaiya said.
The lawmaker revealed that he was worried in the early part of the game when the goals were not coming. “When the goals don’t come naturally you will be under pressure and tension; not disappointment but anxiety.
