Tukur is authentic PDP chairman, court tells Baraje’s faction


THE Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday stopped members of the Abubakar Baraje faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from parading themselves as the national officers of the party.It also ordered that the Baraje faction should henceforth stop interfering in the official duties of the Bamanga Tukur-led faction, stating that the Tukur faction is recognised by law.Saturday Tribune recalls that the Tukur faction had approached the court seeking an order restraining the Baraje-led faction of the PDP from parading themselves as officials of the party.The Baraje’s faction argued that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter, saying it was an internal affairs of the party and that the plaintiffs did not follow the right channel in instituting the suit.In his judgment, Justice E. Chukwu held that the plaintiffs had presented before the court documentary evidence showing that their claims and reliefs sought should be granted.On the mode of commencement, the court held that the facts were not contentious and that there were sufficient materials placed before it which may not make it compulsory for the plaintiffs to come by a writ of summons.Justice Chukwu said, “The suit before the …
