A socio-cultural organisation, the Ijesa Unity Group, IUG, has called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to be transparent and fair in picking the party’s candidate in the state governorship election in 2014.
The group said in a statement made available to journalists in Osogbo that if this could be done, there would be harmony, unity and progress in the party.
Its President-General, Comrade Jackson Olalekan Ojo, appealed to the leadership of PDP that the only way it could pull surprise in the 2014 governorship election was for the party to be thorough and be up and doing in the selection process of its candidate.
He, however, affirmed that an Ijesa man should be made to confront Governor Rauf Aregbesola in the election for positive results and ‘to continue from where the APC-led government will stop next year’.
Ojo then advocated the choice of Hon. Oluwole Oke, former Chairman, House Committee on Defence, representing Obokun/Oriade federal constituency, for the governorship election.
He said: “People of the state are yearning for a positive change but our fear is that the PDP in the state is now in the hands of a few individuals and this will spell doom …
