The Nigeria Tennis Federation is contemplating holding the much anticipated wheelchair tennis earlier planned for the 13th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship for another date.
The tournament was shifted later following the decision to defer staging of wheelchair tennis till another time was reached by the Local Organising Committee, LOC, when it discovered that there would be no time for it considering the tight fixtures of the matches in the Governor’s Cup especially in the morning hours since the tournament is enjoying good weather in this year’s edition at the moment.
Prince Wale Oladunjoye, the Tournament Director said that the LOC has promised to collaborate with Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, whose initiative and appeal for the inclusion of this maiden wheelchair tennis is being considered for support at a later date.
The Governor’s Cup main-draws fixtures which were fixed to begin by 12noon will now serve off by 10a.m each day of the competition to enable earlier conclusion of the first week and the grand finale in the second week on Saturday, October 26; a shift from the earlier Sunday, 27 October penciled down.
The Tournament Referee, South African Anton Rens yesterday gave the LOC Saturday, October 26, as the grand finale date with women’s singles final to be played at 2p.m. and the men’s singles by 4pm.
