Sally Mbanefo, the Director-General of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), on Saturday said the corporation would aim at developing two tourist sites in each of the country’s six geo-political zones.
Mbanefo, who stated this in Abuja at the FRSC monthly jogging in the FCT, said the move would help take tourism to the grassroots in the country.
She called on state governments and other relevant stakeholders in the areas where those sites were located to further develop and have access to them.
“In Nigeria, we have over 500 sites. But we cannot have access to all of them at once. So, the strategy is to identify two tourist sites in each geo-political zone.
“We shall partner with the state governments and ministries in charge to make sure that there is access to these ones.
“This is because we want to take tourism to the grassroots. It is not just about the big cities, it is about nature, it is about eco-tourism and the beautiful things that God has given us,’’ Mbanefo said.
She said her focus as director-general was to rebuild the NTDC, re-event the tourism industry and grow its value chain in the country.
