Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has urged intending Christian pilgrims from the state to pray for the peace, progress and development of the country.
Mr Kola Ademujimi, the Chief of Staff at the Government House, who represented the governor, said this on Thursday in Akure during an orientation lecture for 2013 Christian pilgrims.
“Please remember that you are going there for spiritual empowerment and not for jamboree or an avenue for tourism or any business transaction.
“Therefore, pray for the peace, progress and development of Nigeria so that God should put an end to the blood-bath in Ondo State and in the country at large,’’ he said.
He warned the pilgrims against absconding, saying this would tarnish the image of Ondo State.
“I want you to know that the Israeli government frowns at any absconding move. So go there and avoid any embarrassment that can tarnish the good image of the state,’’ he said.
Responding, Mr Lawrence Akinlolu, the Chairman, Ondo State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, thanked the governor for sponsoring pilgrimages annually.
