Commissioner lists ways to improve civil service


The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Olutoyin Ayinde, has highlighted ways of improving civil service in Nigeria.
Ayinde said people, particularly those outside government had erroneous impression about civil servants.
According to him, the public sees the civil servants as a bunch of lazy and indolent people, who arrive late to work, and leave early for home.
Speaking at a symposium held in honour of the retired Head of Service, Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, the commissioner disagreed with public perception that civil servants were indolent despite their pivotal efforts at keeping the business of government running
He described public service as instrument for good governance and desired change, calling for periodic training of workers to re-brand civil service.
Ayinde regretted that most civil servants in the country had forgotten the courtesies which were part of the service, urging them to shun the mentality of immediate gratification which had entrenched bribery in the service.
