Reiterates faith in unity of Nigeria
Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has lamented the strike embarked upon by various unions in the country, saying the action has stretched for too long. He also reiterated his belief that Nigeria could not break as, according to him, the different parts of the country are connected by an unbreakable umbilical cord.
Abubakar who made the lamentation during a Sallah homage he paid to the Niger State governor, Dr Muazu Aliyu, in company of former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on Thursday, noted that in some countries, strikes are embarked upon for just few hours and are called off, unlike in Nigeria, where it lingers for a long period. Presently, various labour unions in the country are on strike.
They include the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Academic Staff Union of Colleges of Education, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
